  1. Thanks all for replies. I'll give it a go and see what happens. BW are in attendance and they'll either let me through or not. Mike
  2. Hi Off on hols this afternoon along T&M. Could anyone explain how I check the airdraught on the boat please? Someone has told me that there are height restrictions going through the tunnel at Harecastle. I've spoken to BW and they've told me that the maximum boat height through Harecastle is 5'9" but the boat moored beside us is definitely higher than that and he's just been through. I don't want to get there and find the boat won't fit. Has anyone had problems going through the tunnel due to their boat's height? Thanks Mike
  3. A touch of paint perhaps.......... Or even some serious R & C's GB
  4. If you do decide to use solar vents I have 4 brand new ones here still in their boxes. Bought them and then had a change of direction. pm me if you're interested and I'll let you have the make and model etc. They're stainless finish by the way. GB
  5. I don't understand the intricacies of customs but had an import stuck at Manchester today because we didn't have an EORI number??? Without it we wouldn't be able to claim the vat back apparently. I can't throw any more light on this but it may be worth checking if you're trading goods. GB
  6. Hi. An electrical question if I dare! The eberspacher D4 W SC heater on our boat has a relay on the start up side. Unless the engine is running the relay drops out when the heater is trying to start. I suspect a faulty or incorrect relay ie wrong amperage (30amp fitted but unsure if it's the genuine article)? This is a relatively new problem I'm suffering from so I don't think it's amperage loss from inadequate wiring. Is there a specific eber relay or one thats compatible? Or would a greater or lesser amperage relay solve the problem as I don't understand what would cause a relay to drop out ie too much or too little amperage? The voltage reading when it drops out is usually 13.6 - 13.7 taken from the smartguage readout and from the battery monitor. I hope this makes sense! Any answers gratefully received. Thanks GB
  7. There's a guy called Richard who's moored on Mercia. He collects and delivers boats for people who haven't got time or for people who want their boat moving to a specific piece of water so they can have their holiday somewhere diffferent without using up their holiday quota. If you speak to Lucy in the mercia office I think she may have his card or number. He doesn't charge silly money either so I've heard. pm me if the marina can't help and I'll make a couple of calls. Mike
  8. Try this link instead http://www.dipstop.co.uk/boat.html They're £82.00 delivered. Our stern is the same as yours. It took 5 minutes to fit. Tools required:- large adustables, hammer and cold chisel. Take off old cap - screw on the dipstop body until it goes tight - drop in the steel plate they supply and use the adjustables to wind it further down the thread. Remove steel plate - use hammer and chisel to fold over 2 small areas of the filler neck into the slot on the dipstop body. Put on locking cap. Put tools back in box. Wash hands. Put plasters on fingers. Open bottle and enjoy. Plasters not mandatory - nor is having to recover adjustables from bottom of canal GB
  9. We have hinged engine covers and after our recent fuel theft I'm getting a bit concious of leaving the covers unlocked. Has anyone tried these http://www.lockshop-warehouse.co.uk/acatalog/Cam_Locks.html ? GB
  10. £82.00 all in delivered. Ordered Friday arrived Saturday morning. Can't fault the service! I didn't check about letting air in as I have a breather pipe. If you check with John at Dipstop he'd tell you or make a version to suit. He makes 'specials' for tanks with odd dimensions as well.
  11. If the culprits are ever caught by the boaters who had their tanks emptied I'm not sure of what the consequences will be. It probably won't be pretty.
  12. I've just fitted one of these. http://www.dipstop.co.uk/boat.html 10 minutes work and looks the business. Very user friendly company aswell. GB
  13. Hi. Please be aware that there have been at least two boats that have been virtually emptied of fuel around the Shobnal area of the T&M over the last couple of weeks. Lorries and plant in the surrounding quarries and yards have also been hit. GB
  14. Is this the one? Section:- Barrages,Bridges,Tunnels,Canals. Item:- Campbell, Charles. http://www.oakknoll.com/resources/bookexcerpts/095871.pdf Interestingly it discusses the German Fleet in June 1909. GB
  15. Built by James A. Silver Ltd of Rosneath in 1948. Hull construction is of Mahogany and Pitch Pine planking on Oak frames with Oak bulkheads and stringers. Decks are teak laid on Pitch Pine deck beams; the wheel house is of Teak. She currently has three berths but could easily accommodate six. She is still fitted with her original 4-cylinder Gleniffer 48hp air-start diesel engines. Not really a wood enthusiast but this caught my eye.
