  1. Thanks to everyone for the very prompt reponses to my query. I have now purchased the 3 Chart books - Tidal Trent, Non Tidal Trent and River Ouse - from the Boating Association website for a total of £20.00 including P&P. We plan to do the trip in June and July this year so hopefully will avoid any strong tides? We have life jackets and anchor, chain and rope as these were necessary for the Ribble Link crossing. Any advice on journey times from Trent Falls to West Stockwith and West Stockwith to Cromwell? Has anyone done the trip via Gole and Trent Falls? John
  2. We are considering a round trip this summer setting out form Scarisbrick on the L&L Canal via the Huddersfield Narrow Canal then on to York and Ripon then back down the Trent calling in to the Chesterfield canal before making for Nottingham and the Trent & Mersey back to our home marina at Scarisbrick via the Caldon canal. I have cruised the Ribble Link several times and the tidal Thames but wonder if anyone has any advice for us. We have a 57 foot narrow boat called "Owd Chorleian" fitted with a 42HP Beta Marine engine with less than 1000 hours on the clock. I am considering going via Goole when heading back from York to get to Trent Falls. Is this wise? Would I be better advised reversing the direction of travel going down river from Nottingham? Can anyone give some idea of timings for sections of the journey on the Trent? Are navigation lights mandatory as we don't have any fitted to the boat? Is a VHF radio advisable and has anyone any recommendations for a reasonably priced handheld unit? What books should I purchase? Any other suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearting from you experienced boaters. Regards John Bicknell Lancashire
  3. Hi Everyone, We are thinking of taking our 57' NB onto the tidal River Trent in 2010 as part of a cruise through Standedge tunnel, Aire & Calder including York & Ripon, and the Trent & Mersey back to our marina at Scarisbrick on the L&L canal. My initial thoughts are to go with the flood tide from Goole or Keadby to Nottingham and return via the Trent & Mersey canal but, reading Nicholson's Vol 6, they state that the ebb tide lasts about 6 hours against a flood tide of only 2 hours. We intend to call off at the Chesterfield canal on our way. Has anyone any thoughts on the best direction to travel the River Trent? Look forward to hearing your views. John Bicknell NB "Owd Chorleian"
  4. Hi All, I am a new forum user and I presently have a new 57 ft boat under construction and have been offered the Studer 2500W combi-inverter package by the builder at £2100 but I have seen the advert in Waterways World for the Powermaster 3000W combi for £1499 inc VAT! Has anyone any experience or comments about the Powermaster unit? It looks good on paper at Powermaster
