  1. As the title suggests I've pulled up my floor and balast it was absolutly full of gunk and damp, after days of cleaning I'm ready to start sanding with a wire brush on the end of my bosch PSB 1800 drill! I've never painted a bilge before and after alot of researching I've decided with the following.. 1, sand back to metal with wire brush on drill 2; clean metal with Jotun thinner 17 http://www.paints4trade.com/jotun-thinner-no-17-261602-p.asp?fo_c=888&fo_k=1add06079f62a025849cf05c4dd8f7d3&fo_s=gplauk&gclid=CJWgkvrEmtMCFQgq0wodrlgEBQ 3; paint with Two Pack Epoxy Primer http://www.regalfloorpaint.co.uk/product/two-pack-epoxy-primer-paint08.html 4; paint with Two Pack Epoxy Topcoat Enamel https://www.regalfloorpaint.co.uk/product/two-pack-epoxy-topcoat-enamel-paint15.html?gclid=CMuRqKmzmtMCFcgy0wodccsEaA Is there anything I've missed or if there's a better solution i'd love to know, many thanks, maqintosh
  2. Upon removal of the old gas boiler and cupboard I uncovered a serious rust issue in the corner of my narrowboat! over one mm of steel was bulging off from the body the boat. I want to scrape it back, sand it and treat the metal with red oxide or similar buitman etc what course of action is recomended? am I potentially risking to sink if I scrape it back? there was obvious overplating on the outside in this area but am really concerned. photos attached.
  3. It's a 40ft narrowboat, working lister engine, hull 4.5mm at worst on survery / fiberglass top. Interior contains some basics to be reworked into finished boat, show bilge, water pump, stove, inverter, plugs etc. (it was partially refurbished) Just needs some new fittings and fixtures, batterys and solar. To add it's located in a marina 100 miles away.
  4. Says on an offical BSS Examination status report "remove oil from under engine" :/ This is also a very valid point
  5. Just to give all an update on the situation, boat was purchased and BSS guy came and gave notes on what to fix for a pass; Remove cooker, hose to cylinder remove stove or fix collar, remove boiler, secure lose cables and sockets cover battery terminals gas locker needs welding (small holes) remove oil from engine bilge
  6. Thanks all for quick response, this is what I was hoping to hear. Maq
  7. I was hoping that might be the case! Thanks Does anyone know what exactly might need to be done to achieve a BSS on a project, assuming it's in a unliveable state serverly delapadated?
  8. Is it possible to get a temp BSC or a way around any potential dangers that might fail a project boats BSC? Say example permanantly disconnect gas, stove etc?
  9. I'm interested in a narrowboat that currently doesn't have BSS, Licence or insurance. (project) the current state of the interior would initlally suggest failure if I tried to have a BSS cert done and from what research turned up that I cannot have licence without BSS? If I were to have the vessel (currently on land) craned into the canal (closer to my house), would it first need to have bss licence and insurance? would I break any laws if I were to work on it in water without the nessacarys? Also does anyone know if a boat yard would potentially crane a boat into water without BCC, Licence and insurance? Can somebody help clear this up as I'm really confused about canal laws and cannot find clear answers to any of this anywhere online. Many thanks in-advance. Maq
