  1. Hi I have checked the valves and they both seem OK but the inlet valve isn't as clear as the outlet. We are now trying shutting off the working rads but I'm not sure if we have a balancing valve or where it is! Thank you both for your help and advice. Steve
  2. Hi thanks for the replies. Mike, they are not TRV's, just old fashioned valves. Chewbacca, I have tried opening the valves to no avail. Update, the rest of the rads are working fine. However, neither of the pipes into or out of the rad in question are getting the slightest bit warm. This would suggest that there is a blockage between the inlet pipe from the calorifer and the rad. Is this likely? If so, can we drain down the system take the rad out and put a hose into the pipe to flush it out?
  3. One of our radiators is not getting warm. I have bled it and made sure that the valves are open. It is the rad closest to the calorifier and the next rad in the system gets warm. We had the calorifier changed in the summer. Is it possible that some crud has got into the system somehow? Does have any ideas
  4. Hi, our Shurflo water pump is leaking from joint between the top (diaphragm?) and the pump body. Does it make sense to repair the joint or is it better to just replace the pump?
  5. Hi, can anybody tell me whether it is possible to replace a macerator toilet with a gravity pump lever type? We had to take the old macerator toilet out (broken an unable to repair). We currently have a porta potti in place but would like a more permanent replacement. Has anyone done anything similar?
  6. Hi, my Sanimarin toilet has stopped working. It made a gurgling noise just before it stopped but is now dead. The water flush/fill still works but doesn't stop when it should. There is no sound of the motor/macerator working. Has anyone encountered this problem before?
  7. Hi again. The boat is the one detailed above. The survey was done yesterday and we had a call from the surveyor to flag up the potential problems but we won't know exactly what is wrong until we get the report in the next few days. He did say that the rest of the hull was fine. The area at the stern had been overplated and the weld around the patched area was not watertight. He didn't say that water was getting into the boat. When we know exactly what we are looking at I'll be back for more advice.
  8. Thank you for the replies. We have obviously got a lot to think about and consider in the next few days. We are learning all the time. Thanks again.
  9. Hi all. We are purchasing a Narrowboat as a liveaboard and have paid a deposit and commissioned a survey. This has stated that the hull has been overplated badly previously in the stern/counter area. This is obviously a cause for concern and we are wondering whether to walk away or have the work done. The boat is 27 years old and we would be looking to keep it long term. Would it be worth doing the work (est£5,000+) to know that the hull was sound? Apologies for the simple questions! Steve
