Here's the photo's I took in early January just as it had come out of the boat. Is it the sort of engine which would be useful to a narrowboat owner wanting a vintage engine? I would have thought it would be to low on power for a narrowboat.

Springer Yes, now out of the boat. The engineer has stated he has freed the engine (I turned the flywheel over yesterday) as says "large amount of play in front crankshaft bearing. The engine has a tight patch". Thinking of putting on E Bay.

Mine certainly looks better than that one before they got to work on it, but it hasn't the reduction gear or the starting handle. The video which shows it starting up is very nice.

As a new member, can I ask about my seized P2R. Essentially I would like to know if it has any value. I have a 26' yacht built in 1910, which has a P2R. We bought the boat just before Easter, worked on it and launched in the late Spring. The engine went OK until I burnt the starter motor out, and I had that rebuilt about two weeks ago, and went last week on the East Coast Old Gaffers cruise from our home port of Walton on the Naze, to Ipswich, Wrabness, Shotley, and back to Walton, I reckon we went about 10 hours motoring and only 6 hours sailing. Entering the Backwaters the engine dropped out of gear a couple of times, but back in the marina it ran for more than 30 mins in gear, and we went for another short cruise under engine power. Back at the marina the fan belt was slipping, so after tightening that up thought I was ready to go to sea again, but it stopped with a final "donk". It doesn't appear to be water in the cylinder head (I took the injectors out). There was a thought the gearbox had locked the engine and the engineers at the marina said to soak in diesel but this had no effect. However, for me this is not a disaster as it makes the decision for me - a new engine is required. Going to sea requires a reliable engine rather than one with slow revving appeal. I may be wrong, but I think fully restored it may be suitable for the engine room of a narrowboat - would I be correct?
