  1. Sorry for delay the ad disappeared I can only assume sold but was not up long at all.
  2. Don't forget to let us know how you get on crossing the ribble! Enjoy your first cruise.
  3. Are you moving aboard? Beautiful boat!!!! Congratulations and enjoy every minute!
  4. Thanks guys Really appreciate your comments! Happy boating all.
  5. Hello I have only ever manoeuvred boats over 50ft as a hirer and we are looking at finally getting a boat of our own. However we would probably go for something at the very small end of the spectrum to simplify our first experience of boat ownership (costs etc). I have read that boats that are 28-35 ft can be harder to control and don't move as well - this got me thinking about bobbing around in locks much bigger than my boat.... Any comments on notable differences when handling a small boat? Thanks!
  6. Jordens Anyone know anything about this boat builder? I've seen an advert listing this as the name of the builder of a narrowboat and I can't find anything online matching the name. Possibly a typo but I haven't found a similar name either...
  7. Thanks everyone - the term 'ghost mooring' is now helping me clarify the scenario and I'm finding some extra CRT Q&A bits that I hadn't yet picked up on. I would not be holding a ghost mooring simply regularly escaping the confines of a less than glamorous marina but having a home mooring does mean you keep returning to square one and therefore don't stray over a huge radius and will be reappearing on the same bits of canal when working away from and back to the marina, hence my original question.
  8. I hope this is not a totally daft question but I have waded through a huge amount of discussion and reporting both on this site and across other sources regarding the requirements for a cc license holder vs someone with a home mooring. However what if you have a mooring that you pay for and therefore are not a CC'er for the sake of getting your licence but you do cruise a lot rather than stay in the mooring all the time. Can you be accused of being a 'bridge hopper' if you do a lot of local cruising and short term mooring rather than being stuck in the home mooring all the time, or can you do what you want (sticking to maximum stays) because you also have a home mooring to fall back on? Does this even make sense? Hope so if not I will be happy to reiterate.
  9. Thanks Phil - I'm going to source the recommended reads now.
  10. Thanks! The Beetle starts at 25 but you can have it a bit longer. I didn't get the leaflet in my Crick stuff. Unless I overlooked it I shall have another quick rummage. I will check out the other suggestion 'little gem' now. I have seen a Sea Otter and it was very nice but... There is the price issue. It's considerably more in fact it was double the price of a comparable non Sea Otter.
  11. Hello I've always lived (on dry land) within a street or two from the canals, in London, Hertfordshire and now Manchester. Since childhood I have wanted to move aboard and have enjoyed boating holidays. The past two years I have started thinking more seriously about getting my own boat and absorbing info. I've been reading the forums and find them invaluable and a unique source of insight. With a husband, 1 year old, two dogs and a cat in tow logistics will take some planning but I hope I will get there in the end perhaps in a few years time. Until then I hope to arm myself with knowledge and continue gaining experience as a hirer. The physical side of boating is something you can practice on a hire boat but life aboard is very different in reality to holidays and that's what I hope to glean more wisdom on, as well as the technical side of boating (maintenance etc) which hirers don't get exposed to. So thanks for having me and hello to everyone afloat you lucky people!
  12. The Lancaster Canal has a stretch of lock free cruising - you can trick your other half into thinking locks were a figment of the imagination. Having said that locks are enjoyable and very rewarding so maybe you would be better holidaying where there are many locks and your other half can get the fear out of their system!
  13. Hi I've seen the website for the Little Boat Co and its caught my interest - I've previously viewed an Aintree's beetle and am interested in researching alternative options for small narrowboats. Despite seeming to have been going some years, I can't find any mention or reference to the Little Boat Co beyond their own website. Anyone know of them/anything to say on the matter? http://www.littleboatco.co.uk/ A user named Purple Fairie posted on them once (according to forum search) but I don't know how to attract their attention being new to the forum. (My first post but I have been reading for months!). Maybe their boats also go by another name? Or are they not still around? Of course I could try phoning the number on their website but I was wondering if anyone is familiar with them already?
