  1. Ok. I may be naive but I enjoyed the Chilterns IWA meeting last night with Richard Parry. After his introductory talk, the question session did not degenerate into a "slanging match". Good for Chilterns IWA.
  2. Well, we didn't have trouble today going up from Pitstone to Cow Roast. But the short pounds were well down and we were stirring the mud in several places on some of the longer pounds. The bywash from the Wendover Arm to the first pound down was dry and very overgrown. We left the lock one down with a bottom paddle up as requested then met an American family on a "Black Prince" on the summit, another wasted "lock full!"
  3. Does this mean I am going to have trouble tomorrow going from Pitstone to Cow Roast? Watch this space! Last time I phoned CRT to report a problem at Marsworth I was asked the post code of the lock and "where is Marsworth?" Could I tell the girl who answered my call the names of the towns it is between. I seem to recall I said "London and Milton Keynes". The Wide beam trip boat skippers from Pitstone are always very helpful, but usually have a fairly tight schedule. Of course it is the boats, not the skippers, who are "wide beam".
  4. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  5. Thankfully the obstruction was not what you feared. But it has raised again the common belief by the emergency services that everybody will know the post code of where they are. Mind you, when I rang CaRT about Moss Bridge on the L&L (stuck again) recently I was asked the post code! And some time ago when I rang CaRT about a lock at Marsworth I was asked "what canal" and could I tell them where it was near. I said between London and Milton Keynes and rang off.
  6. We were on the GU yesterday and stopped to pick crab apples. Unfortunately one bough of the tree was left a bit lower than it was when we started. Should slow the cyclists down!
  7. When we had to go to a non-mains moorings we installed a 165 watt solar panel. For two months before we moved we ran our Inlander fridge and the automatic bilge pump without any more input than the solar panel. After we moved we left the boat with only the pump in use. So far the batteries have remained charged. The panel is pointed and elevated to the optimum year round direction for the location of the moorings. Hope this helps and encourages the use of "Green Energy".
  8. When we got there recently it was stuck. Ringing CRT only got the reply "What is the post code" and no action. After two hours we rang Yorkshire Water. They had the answer, a Transit with a tow rope! Later that evening the bridge had shrunk (contracted) and it swung easily. Pray for Rain.
