  1. Thought you might like to see a short film of us passing through Whitehouse Tunnel near CHirk on the Llangollen Canal.
  2. Yesterday I posted the first part of our chilled cruise through Rye Hill Cutting watching the kingfishers. Here's the second part.
  3. A short clip of one of our trips through Rye Hill Cutting. Beautiful weather - kingfishers, peace and quite, slow chilled cruise.
  4. I know I've missed this by a few months - I've only just seen this original post by Big Hairy Spider, but I agree with Canal Cuttings and Little Else about the need for a decent heater. Even in September, the evenings can be cold. We've been able to hire boats with multi-fuel / log burners a few times - most recently last September through Anglo-Welsh (from their base at Trevor). Below is a few seconds film of the fire well lit on that trip - cosy! (The dog seemed to like it too!!)
  5. You are all correct - roving bridges are also known as changeline bridges and turnover bridges and snake bridges.
  6. Thought you might like to see this short vid of us passing under a roving bridge - gives a good idea of how a roving bridge works. This is Milford Bridge - Bridge 105 on the Staffs & Worcs. ("Mind your head, woman!!")
  7. Mike Todd is correct - just above Autherley Junction on the Staffs & Worcs. There are a few passing places, and it's fairly straight,so you can see other boats coming towards you in plenty of time.
  8. Thought you might like to see this video of us passing through Pendeford Rockin' a few years ago.
  9. Yesterday, in response to someones post about Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, I posted a video a short video of us crossing it last year. So, I thought you might also like to see a video of us passing through Chirk Tunnel and over Chirk Aqueduct a little while later the same day. We were lucky that a train was crossing Chirk viaduct at the same time!!
  10. Many thanks to you all for your replies - GoodGurl, you have solved a mystery - I had a notion I had seen photos of Arethusa on a website ad now I kow where (sadly closed down, as you say). I was aware that she had a few name changes - she was also sold to another hire company when she was only a few years old. Additionallty, the current Black Prince is a different organisation - the previous Black Prince Narrowboats was replaced by Black Prince Holidays at a different location.
  11. I am trying to find pictures of a former Black Prince hire boat called Arethusa. I believe she was built in 1982 and introduced into the fleet in 1983. We hired her for a week from Whixall Marina on the Llangollen Canal in early 1983 but I have lost the photos of the trip. Back in the 80s she was painted in blue and yellow (the standard Black Prince colours in those days) and had bow protection bars running from near the Tstud on the bow to the top corners of the cabin (also standard on the Llangollen Canal in those days). Does anyone know where I might find pictures of her?
  12. Goliath - you won't like this video either - some film of us crossing Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on holiday last September.
  13. How easy would it be to change the central heating system on a boat from an Alde gas system to a diesel system such as Webasto or Ebesbacher?
  14. Many thanks to everybody that has replied - you have given me much food for thought!
  15. I am interested in purchasing a narrowboat that I have looked around. I have one reservation (OK - probably more than one, but this one is the most important!) - at the moment the heating is to radiators from the back boiler on a Bubble solid fuel stove. So, my question is, how easy is it to alter this so that the heating to the radiators comes from a different system (e.g. diesel or gas system) whilst keeping the solid fuel stove. David
