  1. Just reading through this old thread...3 years on and I'm still on board No35 Thyme
  2. Tiny painting of my barney boat 'Thyme'
  3. Alan Firth was a great painter, that's a lovely piece
  4. Nice, is that water colour? I can't paint with those at all, one mistake and it's over... And I make allot of mistakes lol
  5. The trouble is as an artist now you have to use as many different approaches as possible, just relying on a gallery picking you up won't work.we have to make our own luck, I just use Facebook at the moment but a website is next and many artists use a bewildering array of social media and blogs to engage with there public and build massive followings doing so. The downside is it is time consuming and keeps you away from creating.
  6. from a business point of view it's a no brainier, cost nothing, free advertising and people who would never see my work otherwise get to look at it.
  7. I only sell boats to a select few ha ha
  8. No, I've had so much work through Facebook! I.. I find it a really useful way of reaching allot of people.
  9. No not at all, I use graffiti paint (really) and halfords car paint, I use these to establish very lose under paintings, I also use cardboard stencils that I draw and cut out to define the dark tonal areas ie boat sillhoute etc i build the under painting until if squinting I can see the very bare bones of a painting... Let it dry for a bit then paint with brushes and acrylics in the normal way, it's not your standard painting technique but works for me
  10. I will be trading on my boat in the summer, sorting out a website also, plus a couple of exhibitions i have an art page on Facebook also
  11. Thank you! I will take that lol maybe a little way to go yet.
  12. The first on is mostly made up, I get that allot though, people see places they know I'm my work.
  13. Hi, yes it confuses people allot, I use spray paint in nearly all my work, plus acrylic and conventional oil painting techniques
  14. I do indeed, it's my tiny pride and joy lol
  15. Thank you all very much and no I'm not making even a tiny fortune lol It is Martin on halsall, I have painted quite a few coal boats now
