  1. I'm sure your departed parents are looking on. These stories really make me appreciate my own parents, so thank you. I shall tell them I love them today. That is a lovely boat. The extra width makes a huge difference to a narrowboat. My brother intends to keep his floor clear and undivided for that reason.
  2. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  3. Do any of you know what this stove might be? It doesn't seem to have any lettering on it. There isn't choice, it was free and that makes it the right stove. It seems to be fairly unused and the rust is mainly surface stuff. Just mucky from a shed that's all. Very happy with this.
  4. Lovely links folks. I shall be gleaning ideas too.
  5. Just ordered this on ebay Fireangel WCO-628 Wi-Safe Remote Carbon Monoxide Poisonous Digital Gas Alarm So thank you all for making us safer
  6. I saw discounts but not free. I will look for you. I need to know about tenders too. This mentions it http://www.britishwaterways.co.uk/media/documents/meetings/wusig/Boating_Issues_Meeting_Historic_Discount_Progress_March_2007.pdf I'll keep looking Found a form. No idea if it is new http://canalrivertrust.org.uk/media/library/732.pdf Yours may be too young but no harm asking. This is off that form. The basic structure of the boat should have been built before 1 January 1948 (when most inland waterways were nationalised). In some circumstances boats built after this date can be considered for the discount. There are many publications which illustrate or describe most of the older boats still existent. Applicants should provide documentary or photographic evidence of the boat’s age and history. The materials and methods of construction are often indicative of the period of manufacture, e.g. virtually all riveted iron/steel construction occurred before 1948.
  7. I've asked the vendor to look out for one. Thanks for the info.. and if anyone happens to spot one.....
  8. Just because I happen to be in love with them at the moment. Orange lights last 5.5 hours in a water bowl. I timed one last night. pic upload
  9. This isn't a techno solution nor one that will do anything other than create an ambiance and doesn't flog the horse. I suggest you eat some oranges/tangerines/mandarines and make oil lights with them, and/or buy some candles, and/or oil lamps. (Obviously with all the safety aspects adhered to). You don't need the lights on at all if you are on computers and you don't have to be in the dark without electricity. It can be most beautiful without. Folks managed for years without it. Keep the power for the techno machines and the beauty for yourself. P.S. using orange lights, put them in a bowl of water, then they don't burn up at the end.
  10. I think that is beautiful but i also think it is cold....
  11. Apparently it was 6 degrees this morning but now is 21 inside with a blanket hung halfway down. The water is 4 and outside was 2. Hot water bottles are handy.
  12. Will certainly get one. In fact I shall right now on the pute. There is certainly ventilation enough not to worry about fumes I hope and I think I read somewhere that as long as a paraffin heater burns with a blue flame and with enough oxygen, that the fumes were near zero. We haven't left the marina yet. Early days. There isn't even a floor to fix the heater to yet.... lol.
  13. Thank you. That was it.... I will ask. That first pic by PaulJ is where mine came from. He may have one.
  14. You all make me so happy saying how warm it is because I'm always worrying about my brother when it's freezing. I must say I was surprised how little heating boats seem to need to stay warm. His seems quite warm even with just an aladdin paraffin stove going. I'm not sure how super the fumes are from those long term. We're not fitted with anything to monitor that yet. I think it is unfinished enough not to be worried about getting any fresh air... lol.
