  1. Thanks everybody. All of these posts have been very informative and helpful
  2. I'm sure we'll love it Phylis, once we actually get going!!
  3. It's petrol, certainly. And yes, I think we need some hands on stuff, don't we. But we wondered if it was a cable just being sticky. It seems fine once it's in gear, and in light of cereals post, we were being too gentle I think. I really appreciate your help though. The last problem I posted about was the massive amount of water that had accumulated. Given that it's still floating, it clearly was just an accumulation of rain / condensation, because it hasn't come back. I'm sure eventually we'll actually manage to get it out on the river.
  4. Maybe I should buy a camel...or do they have engines?
  5. Wow, thanks so much, it doesn't necesarily sound terminal, then, does it? I think it's been out of water about 3 years. Erm, now this is really embarrassing....there is a white plastic bung on top of the engine. Is this where the oil goe? Wow, thanks so much, it doesn't necesarily sound terminal, then, does it? 6. Bagdad Re tickover, that is already the case about the cables. We don't know what the drive is, but have attached image (a bad one) for ID Thanks Rick, that's very kind but I think we would be too far away in Cambridge
  7. Help please! We seem to have an outdrive problem. When you try to put it into drive it makes a rumbling / graunchy sound and with more pressure, goes in. Could this be a cable adjustment problem? Lack of oil? Or any other suggestions? Bit of background, we have only recently bought the boat, and it was on a trailer, so have never been able to take it out and run it. Yesterday was the first attempt. Engine starts and runs perfectly fine, and it (allegedly!) had nothing wrong with it. It had been standing on the trailer for about 3 years. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. Lindy
  8. Well, the old lady is floating now, ready for the off, and hasn't filled up with water and sunk yet, so I guess that's a very good thing! Thanks for all your help guys, I'll keep you posted about any ongoing problems
  9. Well, we pumped about 30 litres out in total. I'm going to ignore the bit about water getting between the 2 skins, because I don't like that idea! The canopy definitely leaks,so I guess it's likely to be the rainwater theory. Hopefully we'll get her on the water within the next week or so, but I'll make sure I've got a mask and snorkel just in case. Thank you all for your help and suggestions (except for the ones I don't like!! ) I'll let you know how long we floated for!
  10. Ha! Good point about if it holds water whilst on a trailer, it will keep water out! Never thought of that one, and I'm liking the idea. I think I'm happy about it just being rainwater that's got in, so thank you for your reply, I appreciate it
  11. Hi We are very new to boating, and have just bought what we believe to be a Buckingham 21, and we have a very stupid question. We took the old lino flooring up, and the floor was very wet underneath, and we discovered a small 1" hole in the floor just by the galley. The water level was visible, and about level with the floor. The boat is still on a trailer, so a natural assumption would be that it slopped over in transportation. We decided that we should pump it out, thinking that it shouldn't be in there, but after 25 litres we wondered if, in fact, it should be there after all. The water obviously wasn't dirty river water, as in the bilges, but a sort of clear browny colour. Does anybody know if the Buckingham has water ballast tanks, and how full they should be? How do you know how much is in there, given that we've pumped 25 litres out? Thanks in anticipation! We are planning to slip it very soon, so are anxious to know what it's there for
