  1. Well Christmas came and went, and I did get loads of 'boat' pressies... I was a great experience seeing the boat delivered on time and in great shape. We are really happy with the finished product. Now to get on board and do the work on our side! Will post some pictures when I learn how to do it.

  3. Still very excited, but sometimes feeling totally overwhelmed! Going to have to accept that no matter how much research I do or questions I ask this is a massive learning curve and we are just going to have to get on board and carry on learning! Have changed boat spec to 60 x 10 and the work is now well underway. Delivery to be confirmed for late January, early Feb.

  4. I'm waiting to find out the model number now.
  5. Hello I'm looking at ordering a pump out toilet and waste tank for my new build and wondered if anyone using this equipment could give me any help and advice. I've found a Jabsco PAR toilet and tank kit for £1300 - do you think this is reasonable? (boatbilder quote is £1960!) Two of us will live aboard and i'm wondering if a 390l tank will last for say 2 weeks? (wouldn't want to have to empty more than this!) Some seem to have a mascerator and some don't - any views? Finally, a friend of mine installed a toilet that seems to have a very small hole which causes problems. If anyone has a Jabsco can you reassure me? Any advice much appreciated... Ali

  7. Very interesting. I would really like to get involved in this - will look out for the ad and find out more.
  8. Many thanks - very useful info.
  9. Hello, I just tried to have a look at your blog and it said I needed to be invited to view. I'm in a similar osition myself with a sailaway being delivered in the sring next year. I trust all is going well with your fit out?
  10. Hello Andrew Browsing through the forum and I wondered if you would be able to say a few words about how things are working out for you and the family? House sold, we are moving into interim accommodation in a few days and will be ordering a new build widebeam in the next few weeks for delivery in February. We includes myself, teenage daughter and son and our dog, and this will be a new way of life for us. Would also be very interested to know if you used Viking Canal Boats and how things worked out there?
  11. Many thanks for all this useful advice everyone, will let you know how its all working when I get going...
  12. Thanks I want to know if I could use the mobile and the monthly data allowance on that, instead of having a dongle or sim contract as well? I will be a continuous cruiser, so it would be good to know if anyone can recommend good satellite [ digital systems and the costs, etc. Thanks I want to know if I could use the mobile and the monthly data allowance on that, instead of having a dongle or sim contract as well? I will be a continuous cruiser, so it would be good to know if anyone can recommend good satellite [ digital systems and the costs, etc. Sorry, not used to using the forum yet but grateful for any info from those actually using the equiment I did have a quick try to find anything related to this but it wasn't listed as far as I could see I've decided to send less on my mobile and use the 3 Mi-fi for internet so
  13. Also have now moved from most/all of my friends and family thinking i'm mad to want to live on a boat, to everyone getting quite interested and excited.... would you believe it.

  14. Waiting for boat delivery early next year. As its a 'sailaway lined +' there will be quite a bit of fitting out to do which i'm really looking forward to. All I can do at the moment is learn as much as I can which is a challenge but good fun. Its getting really cold now - will do best to make it a nice warm boat. lol

  15. Thanks - if this covers our usage that would be great. Do you have any recommendations for digital TV?
  16. Hi all House now sold and now living in temporary accommodation till early spring when my new liveaboard will be ready. One of the things I've got to sort out is access to the internet and digital TV channels - and my mobile contract is up for renewal now so I need to get the best one for use on the boat... - Digital TV is the most straight forward and I'm wondering what people recommend is the best equipment? - As for the internet, I will be working from home alot of the time, also have a daughter who will happily sit on Facebook/etc all evening... Would want to download the odd film/tv programme and music occasionally. We will have two laptops, a Blackberry and I'm thinking of getting an IPhone 16mg I've used a dongle before and it turned out to be expensive given the amount of hours we access the internet. Any views on this or alternative suggestions? I've also heard that its possible to use a mobile phone as a modem for a laptop, and to watch films (plugging it into the TV) and i'm wondering if this would work with an Iphone? Is anyone doing this and if so what is the speed/coverage like? Any views/advice would be very much appreciated.
  17. Really useful, thanks, it is a fitted price and I will get it done. I'm assuming the insulation material will be fairly easy to fit myself?
  18. Look interesting, wondering if anyone is actually using one and: - how noisy is it (cannot be silent) - where would you build it in - looks too big for the engine room? - could it be wired so it was controlled from inside the boat, or to start automatically if the batteries are low or the power is too much for the invertor - is it possible it might be incompatible with the invertor? Sure I've read about problems with this Also, if these do work well why would anyone want to spend thousands on a Tavel Pack or another type of generator?
  19. I'm wondering how noisy this engine will be - any views? My boat builder is selling a Hospital Exhaust Silencer, high attenuation -35 dBA, fitted for £195 + VAT Do you think this would be useful? Is the price reasonable and are there any other alternative/additional wayas to silence the engine noise?
  20. Also, at least I know a TP needs the engine running and is different from a stand alone genny! Lol Could have spent all that money whilst in the dark without the help of the forum! OMG!!!
  21. Me too! All of this has been very helpful but its all soooo complicated! As a beginner I'm already heading towards a long walk with my dog. I'm tempted to start off as Nick suggests and learn first hand as I go along rather than splashing out this hard earned money at the start. A reasonably priced fitted diesel genny, solar panels and traction batteries sound interesting so will look into these and the suggested links. Thanks again all
