  1. I think due to Covid they’re insisting on 1 meter space between people so the usual chaperones aren’t working and they only have 1 person licenced and insured to drive other peoples boats. bloody stupid if you ask me. Put a mask on and get on with it
  2. Thanks we did plan to use HNC but they are only allowing 1 boat a day through the tunnel so it’s booked solid. Moored up in Piccadilly tonight opposite Telford basin which seems safe enough.
  3. Thanks for the tips guys. Mac I did sell my boat in 2018, I’m helping a friend bring his boat up to Ripon.
  4. Hi, I’m heading through Manchester from the Ashton Canal onto the Rochdale and looking for recommendations on safe mooring spots. Or those to be avoided Thanks Martin
  5. It’s a Devon Aztec, based on a LWB Citroen Relay. Lovely van, very easy to drive very comfortable.
  6. Just a belated update to say I sold Mr Bunbury in May. I believe the new owner has renamed it Blunderbus ? so give him a wave if you pass. I now have a Devon conversion Motorhome and am enjoying visiting those places the boat couldn’t reach. I still have an interest in canals and boats so may well see some of you at one of the old boat gatherings. As you can see from the pic below I’m still attracted to water. This the new van on the smallest ferry in Scotland - at 53ft it’s shorter than Mr Bunbury ?
  7. After spending 6 years afloat living on my lovely boat Mr Bunbury it's time to return to shore and move on to the next adventure - although I'm not yet sure what that will be. Six years on the cut has allowed me to explore most of the system, I've made many friends and seen some of the most unspoilt quite areas of our green and pleasant land. I would like to especially thank Daniel for providing this site which is a mine of information for boaters and certainly made my early days on the cut much easier as I learned the quirks of both narrow boats and canals. I've yet to ask a question which couldn't be answered by someone on the fourm Many thank to all who have helped encouraged or just said hello as we have passed. I should thank Starcoaster for her humour and Richard (RLWP) for his help rebuilding my Lister.
  8. Just received an email update from CaRT. Seems the navigation IS open from 16:00 on Friday. The contractor will be still be working on-site but these will not affect navigation. Notice Alert Oxford Canal Location: Between Hillmorton and Clifton upon Dunsmore, Oxford Canal Up Stream Winding Hole: Above Bridge 74, Kilsby Road Bridge. Down Stream Winding Hole: At the junction of the Clifton Arm. Monday 5 February 2018 08:00 until Friday 16 March 2018 16:00 Type: Navigation Closure Reason: 3rd Party Works Update on 15/03/2018: The navigation between Hillmorton and Clifton upon Dunsmore will be re-opened from 4pm tomorrow as planned. The third party contractor will be continuing to carry out drainage works along the side of the canal but these will not affect the navigation. Boaters are asked to proceed with care. Please be aware the towpath in this area is closed and a diversion is in place. The towpath diversion will continue until September 2018 while the third party contractor carries out further works adjacent to the canal.
  9. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. As it happens I've picked up a bad cold so a weeks shore leave should help it.
  10. OK so still a bit confused as CaRT seem to confirm it will be open on 16th while the actual contractor says it has slipped a week. I've put the boat in a marina for a week and will try again next week when hopefully it'll be open.
  11. As the title really I’m making my way south to Braunston and wondered if anyone knew if the stoppage below Rugby is still on target to open on 16th.
