  2. Well done Alf you are keeping up your usual level of putting words into other people mouths and not understanding what I have said. Nowhere have I said I have anything against these people in fact if you read the thread carefully you will find the words "worthy project) (at least I think those words were used but it is certainly the gist of what I said). CRT isn't and shouldn't be a housing association. That would start to remove funding from maintenance etc. To follow "There should be the same for affordable moorings imo. usually priority is based on poverty or inability pay, not on existing or past behaviour." says CRT has a responsibility to provide such moorings. This makes it on a par with those providing social housing with a responsibility for housing people. This isn't their responsibility. I haven't said the group shouldn't go ahead and get the moorings sorted out. What I did say but you chose to misinterpret was that CRT shouldn't be responsible for having a list of affordable moorings and giving priority to people in poverty. This isn't and shouldn't be their responsibility for a number of reasons. The first is that it should be the responsibility of councils etc and the more that responsibility is split the more chance to pass the buck and expect some other organisation to look after the unfortunates in society. This in case you haven't noticed is likely to lead to giving them a worse deal than they already have. The second is that if they take on extra responsibilities boaters will be moaning about lack of maintenance. Canals will become less and less navigable leading to a linear boat park which I don't think is in anybody's interests. There are others but I don't think it necessary to enlarge the intelligent will follow my argument. There is probably no hope for anyone else. In future before you start misinterpreting my posts (I know you will find it hard) read the posts I make and spend a second or two thinking is he saying what I want to interpret his post as or is he saying something else. Currently you always seem to half read the post and jump to conclusions which rather show up the fact you haven't considered what I really said.

  3. I suspect that those which are seeking ways to state how this will not work, should not happen and is unfair are the same people who are found pleading for a return to the golden age of community, where people knew their neighbours and kids could climb trees without a crash helmet. Well guess what? You can't have both! As is the want of (Wo)man, a need has arisen to build for the betterment of ones offspring. Those in need have made the decision to try and do something about it, legitimatly. They are probably more than aware that the will be subject to the oft crippling face of the infighting and pedantry that makes up a sad part of the boating world and have factored that into it as well. So, a challenge to the naysayers, forget regulation 1.4, subsection 3, appendix blah blah blah for just one second and think what a bright and obvious benefit that this could have on a group of families, their children, their community, their city, the world. This is a good thing

  6. I think the op should be aware this could backfire on him in that any future help requests might be ignored. Please Swift try and accept a lot of help is available on the forum. At 66 I can tell you it' s best to learn to accept a bit of ribbing, life is easier. None of the banter was evil, lighten up my friend life is short.

  9. Is it worth having a separate section for theft and vandalism? It's good to keep everyone informed at certain times so they can be more vigilant.

  12. We have the 1410 and it's been excellent. Very good and easy to keep in overnight too. It collects "all" of it's ash into the tray without spilling everywhere unlike a lot others.

  14. I can see it now on the laptop, the picture is here on the forum its definitely a Refleks. Koukouvagia is the forum expert on these I believe. If it were me I'd take it out and put a medium sized solid fuel stove in there, like a Becton Bunny or a Villager Puffin. Or if you want to be more adventurous one of the beautiful enamelled french or dutch stoves. (I'm a bit biased as my stove is an enamelled dutch cooking stove and I love it but they are a bit 'different' with not being modern etc etc and a bit less controllable possibly) Some of the small Godin stoves are very nice. It does depend on usage patterns and if you like or dislike coal generally, whether you want to burn a lot of wood etc etc . If you prefer a diesel stove I don't think you'd be able to put something any better in there in terms of reliability although there are some diesel stoves with 'real flame' like the bubble and lockgate stoves which might be nicer to look at. I find the Refleks a bit "clinical" but its a matter of opinion. I suppose a slight problem with a solid fuel stove install is it would push the stove itself more into the cabin and might block up the route to the doors a bit...

  15. put aside, for one moment, your inexplicable hatred of these people you have never met and think; this, if CRT allow the mooring ( and it's by no means certain they have a say if it's a river navigation) how are they behaving any differently from any other EOG mooring on their waters. so the answer to your question is "no, of course not"

  16. I feel that tales of theft or vandalism are not helpful - rather they only function to worry people. One-off thefts or acts of vandalism can occur anywhere and there is nothing to be done about these except to take common sense precautions.

  19. Isn't this particular problem due to paddles being left open rather than gates? At least that's how it reads in the OP...

  20. I know what you're saying Old Goat, But I would welcome suggestions and / or possible Alternative solutions to a problem I had, or wanted to overcome, or things I hadn't thought of. And to be able to Tap into the vast Knowledge that is freely given on here I think is wonderful. Even if you have to filter out 10 or 20 posts to get to the 1 that will work for you. I tried to answer the specific question, then gave an alternative to suit budget. So I fall in both camps I suppose. After all, in the OP he also said ' Any help or Advice'

  21. Hi ya, I've done 'Similar' to what you're suggesting, if you look at the Pic below, Far Left you can see my two Alternator feeds, Shunts, and the Cables going straight to my Amp meters. https://www.dropbox.com/s/olh6wid80iy14ob/2014-04-30%2016.26.29.jpg?dl=0 This indicates to me while at the helm what's going on with my Alternators at any point whilst underway via a quick glance. (Twin Amp meters at top of switch panel, to right of wheel) https://www.dropbox.com/s/t0zkoiwapyugrhs/IMAG0222.jpg?dl=0 If a more in-depth knowledge of what state my Batteries are in, or what charge is going where etc then I take a peek at https://www.dropbox.com/s/kq2g7cllih5t1uo/2014-04-04%2011.52.42-2.jpg?dl=0

  22. the only problem with that is the discharge current could be a lot greater that the charge current so you mist over spec the shunt to account for this. Bob
